Our volunteers will be asked to complete a variety of tasks which will help Secure the Call in our efforts to save the environment and protect the community. There are lots of ways to help! As a volunteer you may be asked to participate in the following projects:

Pick-up Phones From Permanent Locations – Help us by collecting phones from barrels in permanent locations in your area and sending them to our headquarters in Takoma Park, Maryland to be processed.

Find Permanent Sites – Talk to local businesses and find stores, libraries, police stations, etc. that are willing to permanently host one of our collection barrels at their location.

Find Monthly Drives – Find businesses, schools, and office buildings which may be interested in hosting a one-month drive to collect cell phones.

Attend Environmental Events – Represent Secure the Call at local environmental events and fairs in your area.

Find New Community Partners – Contact local senior’s centers, domestic violence shelters, or law enforcement agencies to find new places from which to distribute the cell phones collected by Secure the Call.

Work with Existing Community Partners – We have Community Partners all over the country who could use your help in distributing phones to the people they help.

Find Other Volunteers – Secure the Call is always looking for more volunteers! Spread the word to friends, family and coworkers so they too can join the cause.

Work with Local Law Enforcement – Local and state law enforcement agencies always work excellently alongside Secure the Call. They can host permanent barrels, distribute phones as a Community Partner, or just help spread the word. Get in contact with your local police or sheriff’s office and teach them how to help.

Work with Local Press – Secure the Call is always looking for more ways to get our message out, and a great way to do this is to contact the local media. You can alert the media when you place a new barrel, find a new Community partner, or attend an environmental event. This is a great way to call attention to our cause and our efforts. You can also take photos, make statements, or give interviews.

Promote STC to other Environmental Organizations and Community – Whenever you encounter an opportunity to spread the word about Secure the Call, please do so!

Please know that we will typically ask you to pursue specific projects at a given time. For example, if your area does not have any Permanent Collection Sites, we may ask you to devote your volunteer efforts to finding some. If you have signed up as a volunteer and not been given a specific task, please give the volunteer coordinator a call (301 891-2900) and discuss what you might do to help!
